What is cockbeading?

Cockbeading is a term often mentioned when talking about kitchen cabinet designs. But what does it mean, what does it look like, and most importantly, is it a feature you want in your home?

So what is cockbeading?

Cockbead or cockbeading is a thin beaded moulding that is carved onto traditional kitchen cabinets. This feature is applied for either aesthetic reasons as it gives each cabinet and drawer front a traditional period feel. Or for practicality as it protects the face of the drawers and cabinets from general wear and tear.

Cockbeading can also be used to hide small variations in the fit between drawer openings as it casts a subtle shadow line around the drawer fronts.

Examples of cockbeading:

Beaumont Crescent

This first example of cockbeading is our Beaumont Crescent kitchen completed in 2019. The clients of this kitchen wanted a traditional shaker style, perfect for cooking and entertaining. Our team designed this beautiful kitchen with breakfast bar, keeping the clients needs in mind. The traditional shaker style kitchen features a cockbeaded frame and is handpainted in Downpipe by Farrow and Ball.
